Staying at Moonacre Farm

In our glamping area we have a shepherd's hut and two bell tents. By staying in any of these facilities you can access our lake and go for a leisurely stroll around. Tranquility is the name of the game here at Moonacre, chill out and enjoy - even the alpacas are quiet!

Come & stay in our Shepherds Hut(new for 2019)- situated within it's own enclosure but near to our lake and with alpacas in the neighbouring paddock. The ultimate in relaxation, the hut sleeps two comfortably plus two children (up to the age of 10) one in the bunk above the main bed & the other in a camp bed. We also have a travel cot if needed - although this would be either the camp bed or travel cot due to limited space. The hut has constant electricity for lights & a laptop. There is also a kitchenette and an inside and outside dining area with plenty of space & a fire basket. Thre is also a shower room with a hot shower and toilet. Last but not least there are lots of fairy lights (inside and out) and our alpacas will be your nearest neighbours. Please feel free to call for details of availability.

We also have two bell tents available for rent - Maisy's and Daphne's sited next to the female alpacas enclosure. The bell tents sleep 2 adults plus 2 children with a 6 foot sleeping area (very comfortable mattresses) and 2 camp beds. A fully equipped kitchen station is provided with a gas hob, crockery and cutlery and pots and pans etc. You will also have use of a hot water shower nearby. Please contact us for details.

Why not come along and soak up our tranquil atmosphere. The female alpaca paddock is within sight of the Bell Tents and the Shepherd's Hut and watching this year's cria (babies) play together at dawn and dusk is a must see. We turn off our tv in the evening and watch the cria playing in the paddock - they run together at about 30 mph going this way and that and when they slow down they all pronk together - this is a type of skipping, truly magical to watch. Listen to the skylarks, the owls at night, watch the buzzards riding the thermals and see the herd of deer pass by in the next field at dusk - they can be as many as twenty. The number of swallows increases every year - we are now up to about 10 pairs. We have a kingfisher and a heron that both visit the lake and a family of resident ducks.

We are half an hour's drive from the North Devon coast (great for surfing) and from Dartmoor. Slightly further afield is Exmoor.

Locally we have the villages of Winkleigh and Dolton - both villages are only 3 miles away & both have numerous shops and pubs. We are half an hour's drive from the North Devon coast (great for surfing) and from Dartmoor. Slightly further afield is Exmoor. Great Torrington is only 15 minutes drive away and has an arts centre which also serves as our local cinema, complete with a bar and cafe for day and evening refreshments and meals. For the garden lovers amongst you we are 10 minutes drive away from RHS gardens of Rosemoor. Nearby we have the renowned Stafford Moor Fisheries, just half a mile up the road with 35 acres of lakes for carp & coarse fishing with a tackle & bait shop on site. For walking and cycling the Tarka Trail is easily accessible at various local points. If you want food delivered Tesco deliveries would be easy to arrange.

Sadly due to the presence of breeding animals we aren't able to receive dogs. You will however meet our lovely dog Rosie who loves people.
